In 2019 he was elected Director of the Academic Neurosurgery Clinic Lünen of the University of Münster, where he developed oncological surgery and endoscopic surgery for diseases of the brain and spine.
In 2014 and 2021 he was awarded the academic position of Associate Professor of Neurosurgery (Priv.-Doz) and the right to teach (venia legendi) by the Universities of Bonn (Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn) and Münster (Westfälische Wilhelms–Universität Münster), respectively. He participates in the editorial board of prestigious international neurooncology/neurosurgery journals, while he is also a reviewer in numerous corresponding journals.
He is an internationally recognized expert in brain and spinal cord tumor surgery. He has been selected to the 15-member surgical oncology committee of the European Neurosurgical Society (EANS) and is certified by the German Neurosurgical Academy (Neurochirurgische Akademie) as an expert in surgical neuro-oncology and neuro-monitored brain surgery based on his total and annual number of surgeries and the size of the clinic he managed. He is also certified as a brain tumor surgeon using the intraoperative fluorescence method.
In the field of spine surgery, he is certified by the German Spine Society (Deutsche Wirbelsäulengesellschaft) with the Master Zertifikat, which is awarded after completing a significant number of complex spine surgeries, as well as with the equivalent of the European company Eurospine (Eurospine Diploma), while he primarily applies endoscopic spine surgeries, the clearly least invasive method of all the minimally invasive techniques.
