He specialized for six years in Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology from November 1992 to March 1999. His initial training in the specialty was carried out for two years at the 1st Orthopaedic Clinic of the 401st General Hospital. He then continued his training at the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary and Derbyshire Children’s Hospital in Great Britain in Adult Orthopaedics and Pediatric Orthopaedics respectively. After his return to Greece, he continued his training at the Spine and Scoliosis Unit and the Microsurgery and Hand Surgery Unit of the National Hospital of Greece.
He obtained the specialty title after successful examinations in April 1999.
Doctor of Medicine of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with a grade of “Excellent”. For this performance, he was honored by the Chief of the General Staff of the Hellenic Army with an Honorable Mention.
He underwent further training for one year (October 25, 2001 – November 15, 2002) in a paid position (Clinical Foot and Ankle Fellowship) in the USA, at the specialized Foot and Ankle Surgery Clinics of Mercy Medical Center and Union Memorial Hospital (Baltimore, Maryland) under the world-renowned Mark S Myerson. During his training, he participated in 970 Ankle and Foot surgeries, in a large number of which he was the main surgeon under the supervision of Mark S. Myerson. The range of surgical procedures involved the rehabilitation of forefoot conditions, midfoot and hindfoot traumatology, diabetic foot rehabilitation, primary and revision total ankle arthroplasties and correction of adult and pediatric deformities.
After his return from the USA, he visited the Department of Foot and Ankle Surgery at the internationally renowned Schulthess Klinik in Zurich three times – for a total period of approximately two months – at the invitation of Deputy Director M Huber (with whom he trained simultaneously in the USA) and Director P Rippstein for further training in the rehabilitation of forefoot conditions, primary and revision total ankle arthroplasties.
As part of his continuing postgraduate education, he was trained and certified in 40 (forty) Courses in the USA, Great Britain, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark in the most modern surgical techniques of reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, surgical treatment of sports injuries of the ankle, knee and shoulder, total arthroplasty of large joints and trauma of the upper and lower extremities. In Greece, he was trained for three months in a Microsurgery Course organized by the University of Athens (Musculoskeletal System Diseases Research Laboratory “Theodoros Garofallides”) and the Department of Hand Surgery and Microsurgery of KAT Hospital, as well as in Metabolic Diseases by the Hellenic Osteoporosis Foundation.
In his long clinical career so far, he served – among others – as Deputy Director and Director of the Orthopedic Clinics of the 401st General Hospital and 417th National Institute of Traumatology, while he worked for many years as an external collaborator at the private hospitals HYGEIA, IASO, and MEDICAL CENTER. After leaving the Health Service, he worked at the Mediterraneo Hospital in Glyfada, as Director of the Foot & Ankle Reconstructive Surgery Clinic.
Selected instructor – after personal training in an Instructor’s Course – for a decade of the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) training seminars for Physicians, under the auspices of the American College of Surgeons/ Committee of Trauma (ACS/COT). He has participated as a trainer in 36 courses of all levels (Student’s-Instructor’s) with lectures and as a trainer of practical skills.
Selected Trainer – after personal training in the International Tips for Trainers Course – of the Training Courses for Orthopedic Surgeons of the International Trauma Organization AO (Arbeitsgemainschaft fur Osteosynthesefragen)-ASIF (Association for the study of internal fixation). He has participated as a trainer in 30 Courses of all levels (Basic-Advances-Masters) with lectures and as a coordinator-trainer of practical exercises in Greece, Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic and Malta.

He has presented excellent research work at the level of biomechanical studies. Initially during his stay in the USA where he was awarded as a co-investigator for the published biomechanical research “Effect of Different
Geometric Configuration of the Weil Osteotomy on Plantar Pressure in an In Vitro Cadaver Model” with the Roger H. Michael Award which rewards excellent research protocols (Baltimore, Maryland, USA). In Greece and in collaboration with the Department of Biomechanics-Division of Mechanical Engineering of the School of Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences of the National Technical University of Athens, he has completed and published the research protocols “Supplementary fixation impact on the stability of Ludloff oblique first metatarsal osteotomy” and “Mechanical comparison of two types of fixation for Ludloff oblique first metatarsal osteotomy under cyclic loading” which were the subject of two completed and EXCELLENT doctoral theses by two of his colleagues at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the University of Patras, respectively. Currently, two clinical research protocols are underway that investigate the results of his own modified osteosynthesis of the Ludloff osteotomy in patients with severe hallux valgus deformities, and the results of arthrodesis of the 1st metatarsal in 4 groups of patients with different pathology.
