Spiliopoulos Georgios MD General Surgeon George Spiliopoulos was born in Volos and studied Medicine at the University of Bologna, Italy, from where he graduated with honors. He returned to Greece and served his military service for 24 months in the air force. His first teacher in surgery was Dimitris Pitsinis, then director of Apollonius. In the late 80s, he served at Evangelismos for 8 months as a resident in general surgery. His direction of both his specialty and his professional activity as a surgeon is digestive surgery, which concerns diseases of the entire digestive system and which specialty in Greece is still included in the framework of general surgery. Then, in the early 90s, he moved to France to continue his specialization there, first at the Hospital of Orleans, under the directorship of the prematurely deceased Dominique Grosseti, and then at the Hospital of Rennes, under the directorship of professor and academic Bernard Launois, a successor to the Lortat-Jacob school (first standard right hepatectomy in the world, in the 50s). The end of his specialization found him in a university position as Chef de Clinique, at the University Hospital of Rennes, with multiple responsibilities in general surgery, such as: surgical oncology, laparoscopic surgery, liver and kidney transplants. He remained in this position until 1999, when he returned to Greece.
