Dr. Aristotle Panos, PD, MD, PhD, FMH, FECTS
Assoc. Professor, University of Geneva-Switzerland
Director of the Endoscopic Cardiac & Aortic Surgery Clinic
Athens Medical Center
Born in Geneva, Dr. Aristotle Panos obtained his Medical degree from the University of Geneva in 1993. In 1994, he became a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Geneva. He then specialized in cardiac surgery and vascular surgery at the University Hospitals of Geneva. In 1999, with a scholarship from the French state, he became the Senior Curator of the Cardiac Surgery Clinic of the Louis Pradel University Hospitals in Lyon and then Pitié Salpetrière in Paris. There, he will have the opportunity, through his position of responsibility, to perfect his skills in modern techniques of valvuloplasty of the mitral and tricuspid valves, minimally invasive cardiac surgery and heart transplantation. In 2001, he obtained the title of FMH specialist in cardiac surgery and surgery of the great vessels of the chest and then in 2003 the title of FMH specialist in vascular surgery, which he is one of the few surgeons to hold together with cardiac surgery. In 2003, he obtained, after examinations, the European title of Specialist in Cardiac Surgery (FECTS). Back at the University Hospital of Geneva as director of the cardiac surgery department, he is particularly interested in minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery and modern thoracic aortic surgery. His innovative work on cerebral perfusion during modern aortic surgery has earned him presentations at the largest world conferences on this subject. Also thanks to this work, he obtained the title of associate professor at the Geneva Medical School in 2007, a title he holds to this day. In 2008 and 2011, he made headlines in Swiss newspapers for the first robotic mitral valvuloplasty in Switzerland and the first aorto-coronary bypass surgery with the da Vinci robot. In 2009, he took over as director of the cardiac surgery department at HYGEIA Athens Hospital. There, he developed robotic and endoscopic cardiac surgery with great success as a pioneer. Currently, Dr. A. Panos is one of the surgeons with the greatest expertise in minimally invasive endoscopic cardiac surgery of the heart valves. He is a consultant to major companies for the development and learning of endoscopic mitral surgery and always maintains close cooperation with the academic community by giving courses to students and publishing scientific articles in endoscopic cardiac surgery. He is the author of more than 80 published articles and more than 100 presentations at conferences. He is invited as a special proctor during endoscopic cardiac surgeries in many countries.
