With a long, recognized history in Oncology and a long-standing commitment to scientific pioneering and innovation, Athens Medical Center takes another important step in the field of clinical research and becomes the first in Greece member of the EDOS Global Network (Early Phase Oncology Specialized Site Network) of PPD, for the implementation of phase 1 clinical trials.

This integration marks the creation of a specialized and fully organized Drug Development Unit, with Dr. as Scientific Director. Vasilios Ramfidis, Oncologist – Pathologist and Director of the Oncology Clinic, at the Athens Medical Center, who implemented this project.

This new pioneering Department focuses on conducting early clinical studies (phase 1), contributing decisively to the development of innovative drugs and therapeutic options for patients.

“We want our patients to have access today, to the drugs of tomorrow,” said Dr. Vasilios Ramfidis, underlining the importance of patient participation in new generation clinical studies. These treatments are available at no cost to patients, while at the same time they do not burden the health system and insurance companies financially.

The collaboration with the EDOS Network opens new horizons for the Athens Medical Center, as the volume of clinical studies to be conducted at the Hospital increases, patient access to innovative pharmaceutical regimens is enhanced, while at the same time the Center actively participates in shaping the future of oncology research, as a member of the international network of high reliability and scientific quality.

In his statements, the General Director of the Athens Medical Center, Mr. Theodoros Hamakiotis, stated “The inclusion of the Athens Medical Center in the EDOS Global Network is not only a strong step towards the emergence of Greece on the global map of innovation in Oncology, but also the culmination of the strategy of the Athens Medical Group to consistently invest in clinical research and the promotion of scientific excellence, for the benefit of patients.”
