Athens Medical Group is the first to introduce the new era of “green surgeries” in Greece with the certification of TÜV NORD Greece
Athens Medical Group, with the certification of TÜV NORD Greece, becomes the first healthcare group in Greece to include anesthetic gases in the greenhouse gas emissions report, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2024/573 of the European Parliament and of the Council.
This initiative is a milestone in linking anesthesia practice with sustainability and environmental protection, paving the way for the creation of “green operating rooms”, with the active participation of anesthesiologists, surgical teams and nursing staff, who adopt new practices to reduce emissions.
The mapping and measurement of anesthetic gases for 2024 was carried out by TÜV NORD Greece, the independent and accredited certification body, based on the international standard ISO 14064-1. In this way, Athens Medical Group adopts practices followed by leading international health organizations and recommended by NICE, the Royal College of Surgeons and the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care.
Athens Medical Group integrates this initiative into its strategic sustainable development program, aiming to reduce anesthetic gas emissions by up to 60% by 2026.
