Cervical cancer prevention

The month of January has been designated as awareness month for the prevention of cervical cancer. It is a disease with a significant social impact, threatening the life of women. At the same time, however, it is a disease that can be prevented, that can be prevented and treated when detected early. The news is encouraging, but it only concerns those women who follow the instructions of the World Health Organization and their gynecologists in particular.

For many years, the indissoluble relationship between the human papillomavirus, also known as HPV and the occurrence of cervical cancer has been identified. Part of the policy against this disease has to do with the prevention of transmission and the early detection of the presence and activity of the human papillomavirus.

There are specific steps that a woman must follow to never face cervical cancer.

The first step is vaccination. This is also called primary cancer prevention. It is the first cancer in the world for which there is a known preventive vaccine and certainly no one should miss this opportunity, as long as they are in the appropriate age group.

The second step is systematic gynecological examination and pap test or hpv DNA test. Each age has its own peculiarities in terms of the type of examination and the frequency of repetition. What is certain is that the more often a woman is examined, the less likely it is that an incipient cancer will go unnoticed. The annual gynecological examination is the golden rule.

The third step is the timely and correct treatment of any lesions that appear in the Pap test. A lesion does not necessarily mean cancer, but it should be investigated with a biopsy when it is suspicious. This is done in specialized

clinics and clinics by specialist gynecologists who have been trained in this subject.

Adopting a healthy lifestyle is always of great importance. Regular use of condoms, avoiding smoking, infrequently changing sexual partners, physical exercise, a healthy diet and maintaining an ideal body weight are what a woman can do to reduce the chances of getting involved in adventures with the HPV virus and cervical cancer.

The message is: respect for every woman’s body, regular gynecological examinations and the proper treatment of every possible problem.
