Menopause: useful information

Menopause for Greek women occurs on average at the age of 51.

When the end of menstruation occurs, the dominant female hormones estrogen and progesterone cease to have a significant presence in the body. Their withdrawal is accompanied by reduced hydration of the body, while the protective role in blood vessels and bones declines.

However, the truth is that we want menopause to occur at the age that is determined for each woman, because certain organs such as the breast and the uterus of the woman have limited tolerance to the action of female hormones. The above stimulation significantly increases the likelihood of malignancy and leads to life-threatening situations.

The onset of perimenopause, the period of time that precedes menopause, begins at the age of 45 on average with symptoms such as decreased menstrual frequency, “legendary” hot flashes, sudden sweating lasting seconds, heart palpitations, mood swings, decreased sexual desire, insomnia, fatigue, dryness, and unexplained headaches. A woman finally enters menopause when she has not had a period for one year.

In this strange phase of a woman’s life, adopting a healthy lifestyle is very helpful, such as a proper diet rich in water, fruits, vegetables, dairy products and proteins, regulating body weight, exercising systematically 3 hours a week, 3 showers a day, hydrating the body, frequent sexual intercourse and sociability. Of course, there is also pharmaceutical intervention with hormone replacement therapy, hormone-mimetic drugs, phytoestrogens, antidepressants, local interventions in the woman’s vagina for dryness with cosmetics, injectables and estrogens and bone strengthening treatment.

In any case, the gynecologist is by the woman’s side to properly direct her to her individual needs, depending on her history and needs.
