Athens Medical Group and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Join Forces for the Future of Healthcare

Athens Medical Group has signed an international agreement, joining forces with the world’s leading institution in science, experience and expertise, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The agreement is the result of long preparation and cooperation between the two leading institutions.

Specifically, Athens Medical Group CEO Dr. Vasilios G. Apostolopoulos and his counterpart at Imperial College Healthcare Professor Tim Orchard sealed the agreement in a modest public ceremony at the historic government building Old Admiralty Building in the heart of Whitehall. Present at the ceremony were the Ambassador of Greece to Great Britain, Mr. Ioannis Tsaoussis, and the representative of the Government of the United Kingdom, the Minister of Trade, Lord Malcolm Offord.

The Athens Medical Group is thus today the first hospital Group in Europe to join the International Network of Collaborating Hospitals of Imperial College Healthcare. The two leading institutions will exchange experience, expertise, medical know-how and knowledge, promoting the common goal of providing medical excellence and top-notch services worldwide.

At the signing, the British Government Spokesperson, UK Trade Secretary, Lord Malcolm Offord, stated: “This is a pivotal agreement for both countries, as we learn from each other on medical excellence and exchange best practices. Working with international partners, we develop capabilities, exchange knowledge, share technology, build resilience, strengthen our services and raise standards. Working together, we are evolving clinical protocols, therapeutic methods and upgrading the overall quality of care provided both nationally and internationally.”

On the part of Imperial College Healthcare, the CEO, Professor Tim Orchard, stated, among other things: “This is a very important agreement for us, we are particularly pleased to be allied with the Athens Medical Group, which we recognize as a leading healthcare provider, with excellent scientific research and specialization.”

The Group’s CEO, Dr. Vassilis G. Apostolopoulos, noted: “The alliance with Imperial College Healthcare and the honor of being the network’s first partner in Europe, have strategic value for our Group and healthcare in Greece. It is extremely important to collaborate, transfer and exchange medical know-how, medical excellence practices, therapeutic protocols, guidelines and all of this, of course, for the benefit of the patient.”

Through this agreement, the Athens Medical Group gains privileged access to specialized consulting services and advanced educational platforms with leading specialists who will collaborate with the Group’s respective leading physicians. Expertise and expertise will be exchanged regularly, based on the common goal of promoting healthcare solutions that improve the patient experience and treatments, especially in the field of oncology, but also more broadly. Particular emphasis will be placed on the start of cooperation at the new International Oncology Center of the Iatriko Group in Thessaloniki, which will be inaugurated soon and will become a reference point for Europe and the Middle East.

The agreement with Imperial College Healthcare NHS trust (the only academic partner of Imperial College London, ranked 4th in the 10 best universities in the health sector worldwide) reflects and underlines the Group’s strategic orientation towards extroversion and excellence and, in the future, towards research and education. At the same time, it highlights the Group’s firm and long-term commitment to providing innovative and quality health services with a focus on people, confirming the pioneering spirit of the country’s largest Greek health group.
