Athens, January 17, 2024 – The CEO of the Athens Medical Group, Dr. Vassilis Apostolopoulos, was welcomed by the Prime Minister of Egypt, Dr. Mustafa Madbouly in Cairo following the Memorandum of Cooperation signed on September 13, 2023 in Athens, between the Group and the Ministry of Health and Population of Egypt. Dr. Apostolopoulos, together with the General Manager of the Group, Mr. George Zerdilas, carried out a two-day working visit to Cairo, where in addition to the Prime Minister, they met with the Minister of Health and Population of Egypt, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and other top Egyptian officials, while a meeting was held with the leadership of the country’s General Authority of Investments (GAFI).
The aim of the visit and contacts was to advance the cooperation plan between the leading Greek health group and Egypt, recognizing the potential contribution of the pioneer Athens Medical Group to the further development of the health services offered in the country, both through presence and extensive cooperation on issues of exchange of know-how, education and best practices in a wide range of this critical sector. These developments reflect the strategic orientation of Athens Medical Group in extroversion and the realization of long-term investments with added value for all parties, building on the Group’s innovation, pioneering and know-how.
The Prime Minister of Egypt, Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, warmly welcomed Dr. Vassilis Apostolopoulos and the executives of the Athens Medical Group, and highlighted Cairo’s determination to provide the necessary incentives to investors, clarifying that the health sector is at the top of the priorities of the Egyptian government. In the same vein, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stressed that the Ministry of Health and Population looks forward to strengthening cooperation with the Athens Medical Group on a multi-level basis, reflecting the high medical level of its hospitals, as well as further investments by the Group in Egypt.
For his part, Dr. Vasilis Apostolopoulos praised the cooperation between the Athens Medical Group and the Ministry of Health and Population of Egypt, underlining the immediate intention of the Group to make investments and transfer the necessary know-how with the aim of providing top-level quality health services, which will extend from primary care to undertaking the management of healthcare units and research and education in the health sector.
At the same time, he expressed his belief that the cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Population of Egypt will be extremely fruitful and will contribute both to the promotion of the health of the friendly Egyptian people, and to the emergence of Egypt as a hub and reference point in the provision of quality health services in the wider geographical region. At the same time, he also referred to the need to deepen the geostrategic cooperation and friendship between Greece and Egypt, which today is stronger than ever.
