May, Hypertension Month: Key Facts We Need to Know

Arterial hypertension, meaning consistently elevated blood pressure above normal levels, is one of the most important and common risk factors for stroke, myocardial infarction, kidney disease and peripheral arterial disease.

The overall percentage of adults with arterial hypertension is steadily increasing worldwide and, according to estimates by the World Health Organization (WHO), it affects nearly 30% of the adult population. Although significant progress has been made in recent years in the treatment of hypertension, the problem remains serious because good blood pressure control is not achieved in the majority of hypertensive patients. In our country, fewer than 30% of hypertensive patients have their blood pressure adequately controlled.

World Hypertension Day is organized by the World Hypertension League every year on 17 May. This observance aims to raise awareness within the global community about the risks associated with hypertension.

At Psychiko Medical Center, a Hypertension Center operates with the aim of ensuring the early diagnosis and treatment of Hypertension in accordance with European and International Guidelines, with the goal of preventing cardiovascular disease and its complications. In addition, as part of a holistic approach to the hypertensive patient, there is seamless collaboration with physicians from related specialties.
