Sexual health: everything we need to know

Sexual intercourse is a pleasure and should remain so in everyone’s life.

Simple rules that are faithfully followed ensure the health of the genitals. The initial prerequisite is that the sexual act is the product of mutual consent and mutual respect. Ideally, this is accompanied by desire and arousal, which prepares the external genital area, provides the necessary hydration and avoids minor injuries. The quality of the contact must be acceptable and dictated by both partners.

Choosing the right partner is very important. The history and health of the external genitals of our partner often saves us from adventures. The more partners there are, the greater the chances of being a carrier of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and therefore transmitting the infection. Regular condom use is often an effective barrier to the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases.

Simple daily hygiene rules are important. Daily washing of the intimate area and emptying the bladder before and after intercourse mechanically clean the area and reduce the load of potential pathogenic microbes. While washing, there is always an opportunity to self-examine the area and feel for strange or painful pimples. Strange odor, discharge, pain, redness, itching or burning in the area often indicate a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD).

The slightest indication that something unusual is happening in the intimate area should lead to seeking medical help. In fact, the sooner the diagnosis is made, the easier the treatment. In any case, regular annual gynecological check-ups highlight Sexually Transmitted Diseases early, even before symptoms appear. This quickly leads to appropriate medication and preventive treatment.

Regular checks of the area, simple hygiene measures and careful personal choices help to ensure that sexual intercourse continues to be a pleasure and one of the joys of life.
