“WALL OF PROTECTION” AGAINST COVID-19 AND NOSOCO-ACCOMMODATED INFECTIONS
NEW COLLABORATION BETWEEN ATHENS MEDICAL GROUP AND VITEX S.A. TO CREATE A SAFER ENVIRONMENT FOR HEALTH SCIENTISTS, PATIENTS AND COMPANIONS
Enhancing preparedness and cooperation between businesses is crucial to combating COVID-19. In this context, the Athens Medical Group and Vitex S.A., two innovative Greek companies, responding to the special and unprecedented conditions we are experiencing due to the pandemic crisis and taking into account the new data regarding the protection of human health, are proceeding with a new collaboration aimed at preventing and limiting the spread of COVID-19 through painted surfaces.

The collaboration focuses on the innovative plastic paint Vitex with Vairo (EOF LICENSE NO.: 90167/04-10-2021) which offers antiviral and antibacterial properties to painted interior walls, according to three renowned European laboratories*. It is noted that Vitex with Vairo is a Greek innovation and is the only paint on the European market that has received marketing authorizations in many countries from the respective Medicines Agencies. Applying Vitex with Vairo virtually eliminates the possibility of transmission of a multitude of viruses through painted surfaces – including SARS-CoV2 – while it is equally effective in neutralizing many bacteria, such as E. coli, St. Aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterococcus hirae, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, which are also implicated in nosocomial infections.
The Athens Medical Group, always supporting scientific innovation and cutting-edge technologies, tested and evaluated Vitex with Vairo on surfaces with high cleaning and disinfection needs with excellent results. The aim is to apply the paint to all the internal walls of the Group’s hospitals, thus erecting an additional “barrier” to the transmission of viral and bacterial infections, including Covid-19.
The new agreement between the Athens Medical Group and Vitex S.A. comes to deepen and broaden the strategic interconnection of the two companies, falling within the purpose of the Hellenic Entrepreneurs’ Union (E.ENE- Dr. Vassilis Apostolopoulos, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Armodios Giannidis, Secretary General of the Board of Directors) which, through the networking of the business community, promotes innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The common goal is a successful and long-term strategic synergy that will highlight and promote the know-how, production and quality services of Greek businesses.
Dr. Vasilis Apostolopoulos, CEO of Athens Medical Group, stated: “I am particularly pleased that Greek know-how is coming to contribute substantially to addressing the greatest health challenge of our time, COVID-19. The Medical Group will always be the natural ally of innovative Greek initiatives with applications in the field of health.”
Armodios Giannidis, CEO of Vitex S.A. noted: The collaboration with the Athens Medical Group was important for the development of the Vairo technology as it helped us to understand in depth the epidemiological challenges faced by modern hospitals as well as the daily requirements for cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. We feel that by answering all the questions and providing solutions to the issues raised, we contribute, on the one hand, to the fight against the pandemic, and on the other hand, to the long-term and more general improvement of the hospital conditions of our fellow human beings.
*The tests and bioassays were carried out based on the ISO 21702:2019, ISO 22196:2011 standards and the OECD Recommended Practices for Testing the Effectiveness of Articles Treated with Antimicrobial Additives (ENV/JM/MONO (2018) 20:2019).
