Papavassiliou Kyriakos
OrthopedicKyriakos Papavassiliou is an Assistant Professor of Orthopedics at the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Director of the First Clinic of Orthopedic Oncology of the Medical Trans-Balkan Hospital of Thessaloniki.
For two decades, he has dedicated himself to the surgery of tumors of the musculoskeletal system, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant (sarcoma) neoplasms of the bones and soft tissues, as well as in the surgical treatment of metastatic disease in the musculoskeletal system.
He completed his undergraduate studies at the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from where he also received the title of Doctor of Medicine. After completing his specialty, he carried out significant post-graduate training in reference centers for the treatment of musculoskeletal tumors in foreign countries. He began his specialization in the surgery of bone tumors and soft tissue tumors at the Bone & Soft-Tissue Sarcoma Unit of the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore-London U.K. Subsequently, he was a fellow in reconstructive surgery of large joints at the Orthopaedic Clinic of the Medical School of the University of Ioannina. His further training was completed with a two-year work/specialization at the Service de Chirurgie Orthopédique et Traumatologie, Chirurgie du Rachis of the Hôpital Bicêtre Le Kremlin-Bicêtre, Paris-France, actively participating in complex operations and interdisciplinary teams.
The treatment of patients with musculoskeletal tumors is extremely difficult. These tumors are very rare, and therefore require great dedication, experience and specialized knowledge, which take time to acquire. It is also necessary to participate in multidisciplinary teams with the participation of Pathologists-Oncologists, Interventional Radiologists, Pathologists and Radiation Therapists. At the First Clinic of Orthopedic Oncology, a specialized team of doctors from many specialties guarantees the best possible outcome in the treatment of oncological patients.
