Athens Medical Center | International recognition of the Electrophysiology & Pacing Laboratory, Athens Heart Center, for its atrial fibrillation ablation methodology
In full keeping with its commitment to remain “always one step ahead”, the Athens Heart Center of the Athens Medical Center is now the only center in Greece, and one of the few in Europe and America that has been selected and has all the new technologies regarding atrial fibrillation ablation (use of a pulse wave system and thermal energy “balloons” linked to electroanatomical mapping).
The above cutting-edge technologies that are available as a priority at the standard center Athens Heart Center, ensure better results, even in the most complex cases, permanently changing the natural history of the disease, while at the same time, reducing the duration of the operation to 60 minutes.
At the same time, the remarkable experience of Dr. Dimitris Tsiachris, MD, PhD, Cardiologist – Interventional Electrophysiologist, Director of the Electrophysiology & Pacing Laboratory, Athens Heart Center of the Athens Medical Center, which has the largest number of atrial fibrillation cryoablation procedures, has received international recognition.
Specifically, the methodology used by Dr. D. Tsiachris and his team was published in one of the largest and most recognized journals, internationally, (Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, 2022 Sep 30. doi: 10.1111/jce.15697) with subsequent republishing of the conclusions, to the entire academic community, through newsletters of international organizations.
Atrial fibrillation is, on the one hand, the most common arrhythmia of the heart. On the other hand, it is a cardiovascular disease, such as coronary artery disease, since it is able to affect the patient’s prognosis in the long term. Its treatment involves not only administering anticoagulants to patients who have an increased risk of stroke, but also restoring normal heart function.
This is achieved in two ways:
- by administering antiarrhythmic drugs
- by ablation of atrial fibrillation, a method that has been judged to be more effective.
The current year is a milestone for atrial fibrillation ablation procedures. The successful, optimal results of recent years justify the choices of the Athens Heart Center team, while at the same time filling us with a sense of responsibility, so that we can continue to offer even more, with the personalized use of new technologies, to all patients.
Atrial fibrillation ablation now has expanded indications, is safer and provides incomparable benefits for the Greek and international patient. Among other things, it is a bloodless & minimally invasive method with limited surgical time & excellent results in repairing the damage. At the same time, the hospital stay after the operation is minimal, while the patient immediately returns to his daily routine.
By using the above method, our patients experience a much better everyday life, but mainly, we have managed to significantly extend their life expectancy, especially in cases where cardiac function has been significantly affected by arrhythmia.
The techniques for treating atrial fibrillation, as well as heart diseases in general, require specialization, modern hospital logistics and cooperation between medical specialties, which make up the Interdisciplinary Team. Daily information on scientific developments in combination with the continuous investments of the Athens Medical Group in biomedical equipment, allows us to have the latest in modern technology so that we are able to offer the most personalized, safe and minimally invasive solution, for each case, no matter how complex it may be.
