Timoleon Terzis, Otorhinolaryngologist and Director of the ENT Clinic and the Athens Rhinology Center at the Athens Medical Center. He entered the Military Medical Corps Academy (SSAS) in 1976 and studied medicine at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He graduated in 1982 with the grade “Very Good” and served in the Hellenic Navy as a career medical officer until 2005. From 1982 to 1983, he underwent training in basic medical specialties at the Athens Naval Hospital. From 1983 to 1986, he served with the Fleet and at the Navy Petty Officers’ Academy. Concurrently, he was an external scientific associate in the Endocrinology Department of the “Elena” Maternity Hospital, where he conducted the research for his doctoral thesis. In 1985, he was awarded a Doctorate by the University of Athens with the grade “Excellent.” In 1986, he began his residency training in Otorhinolaryngology at the Athens Naval Hospital, continued it at the University ENT Clinic of Hippokrateio Hospital, and completed it in paid posts at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Kettering General Hospital in the UK. During his final year of specialization in the UK, he focused on Otology and ear microsurgery under the supervision of otosurgeon James M. Robinson. Concurrently, he closely followed the then-emerging fields of Rhinology and endoscopic nasal and paranasal sinus surgery. Consequently, after completing his residency in 1992, he was among the otolaryngologists who developed, promoted, and practiced modern Rhinology in Greece. In 1998, following attendance at six relevant seminars, he underwent specialized training in laser applications in ENT, visiting specialized centers in Belgium, Paris, and the United States. In the private sector, he collaborated at various times with several major hospitals and clinics in Athens. In 2001, he joined the team of physicians who developed the private clinic, serving as a founder and Director of the ENT Department. In 2008, he founded the Athens Rhinology Center, which was housed within a private hospital until 2012. Since September 1, 2017, the Athens Rhinology Center has been relocated to and operates within the Athens Medical Center. During his service in the Hellenic Navy, he held various clinical and administrative positions—including roles with the Fleet, the Navy Petty Officers Academy (SMYN), the Hellenic Naval Academy, the Naval Hospitals of Athens, Piraeus, and Salamis, and the Supreme Naval Medical Board—as well as serving as a Medical Inspector for the General Inspectorate of the Navy. He retired at his own request in 2005 with the rank of Captain, having served as Director of the Naval Hospital of Salamis. He has published numerous papers in Greek and international journals and authored three chapters in specialized rhinology textbooks; he has also presented dozens of papers at numerous Greek and international conferences. In 2005, he participated in organizing the first Greek Seminar on Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, featuring hands-on training using fresh cadaveric specimens. Since then, he has taken part in 48 similar seminars in Greece and abroad (England, Hong Kong, Italy, Croatia, Poland, Romania, and Austria), delivering 197 invited lectures and performing live demonstrations of surgical techniques. He has been honored for his contribution to the advancement of Rhinology in Poland and Romania.
