Complex hernia / abdominal wall surgery center at Interbalkan Medical Center
Thessaloniki, 11.3.2021. – A specialized “Center for the Treatment of Complex Hernias and Abdominal Wall Reconstruction”, the only one in Greece and one of the very few Centers internationally, is now operating at the Inter-Balkan Medical Center of Thessaloniki. The Director of the Center is Mr. Grigorios Hatzimavroudis, Associate Professor of Surgery at the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, trained in the USA, with specialization and long experience in the application of the most modern surgical techniques for the treatment of complex hernias of the abdominal walls.
The Center is aimed at patients suffering from:
- Large hernias of the abdominal walls, hernias in difficult anatomical points of the abdominal region and complex postoperative hernias.
- Hernias with simultaneous coexistence of serious accompanying health problems, such as obesity, diabetes mellitus, chronic respiratory problems, immunosuppression.
- Complications from previous hernia repair operations, such as hernia recurrence, plexus infection and chronic pain.
The motivation for the establishment of the Center for the treatment of complex hernias and abdominal wall reconstruction was both the attendance and successful treatment of an ever-increasing number of serious patient cases from all over Greece and abroad in recent years, as well as the participation of numerous surgeons in international clinical seminars that have already been organized with the aim of training in the applied surgical techniques.
As the Director of the Center, Professor Mr. Gr. Hatzimavroudis, explains, “the philosophy of the Center’s operation is the individualized and holistic approach to each patient based on their particular characteristics, by a team of specialized personnel, in a well-organized nursing institution, such as the Inter-Balkan Medical Center. This approach is based on a specific triptych that includes the appropriate pre-operative preparation of each patient, the selection and application of the most appropriate surgical technique and close postoperative monitoring, in order to ensure the desired result.”
At the same time, continuing its educational work, the Center will expand the already successful organization of international educational seminars and workshops, as well as research, by announcing its results at conferences and publishing them in reputable international scientific journals.
