The Athens Medical Group donated a 50-bed nursing wing of the Inter-Balkan Medical Center of Thessaloniki to the Ministry of Health
Thessaloniki, November 10, 2020 – The Athens Medical Group, with a high sense of responsibility, decided, once again, to stand by the Greek society. Thus, in the face of the critical circumstances and the difficult times that the country and especially Northern Greece are going through, it decided to make available to the Ministry of Health, a 50-bed nursing wing of the Inter-Balkan Medical Center of Thessaloniki, for use by the National Health System for non-Covid-19 cases.
The availability of the above hospital beds (44 hospital beds and 6 Intensive Care Unit beds) is effective immediately and was announced through a relevant statement to the Ministry of Health. It is estimated that, in this way, the National Health Service will be able to relieve itself of the hospitalization of approximately 450 patients on a monthly basis. For the treatment of these patients, the Inter-Balkan Medical Hospital of Thessaloniki, the leading nursing institution in Southeastern Europe, will make its state-of-the-art infrastructure, its experienced nursing staff and its leading doctors available.
For the Medical Group, the top priority remains the safety of its patients, staff and doctors, and for this purpose, the strict admission and stay measures and protocols that have been established are fully implemented, including the mandatory molecular testing for the virus of all patients and their companions.
Regarding the availability of beds at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Vasilis Apostolopoulos, CEO of Athens Medical Group, stated: “The state of emergency in which the city of Thessaloniki has fallen makes it imperative and necessary, beyond business interests and ideological prejudices, to join forces of the private and public health system, in order to serve the public interest. We are and will be present, helpers and pioneers in every call of Greek society.”
While, Mr. Christos Apostolopoulos, Vice President of the Group, stated in this regard: “Our Group, which for 36 years has always stood by Greek society, today when our country is being tested universally, has a duty to be part of the national planning of the Greek State.”
