Parents are worried and ask why does my child have “crooked” knees?

Did you know that:

  • All babies are born with splayed knees like a closed parenthesis (splayed knees).
  • With the beginning of walking and until about the age of 24 months, the knees straighten. Then the knees become splayed, that is, they touch (splayed knees). The phase of blasogony is more intense until 4-5 years and gradually alleviates.
  • At the age of 7-8 years, blasogony is normalized and the knees acquire the axis of adult life.

The Pediatric Orthopedic is concerned about blasogony—blasogony when:

  • it is markedly severe.
  • The age of appearance and presence does not correspond with the normal age of appearance and self-correction.
  • It is asymmetrical or unilateral.
  • Progressively worsening.
  • It also exists in other members of the same family, especially when they have short stature.

Treatment needed:

Normal developmental raibogonia-blaisogonia does not require any treatment. All that is required is information and reassurance to the parents about the natural progression of self-correction over time.

Corrective shoes and braces have no place in normal raibogonia-blaisogonia.

Children with pathological raibogonia-blaisogonia need monitoring and treatment.
