Navigation System – Passive Robotic Surgery for Hip-Knee Arthroplasty

The use of robotic surgical systems in Orthopedics allows Surgeons to improve their preoperative planning and to carry it out at the time of surgery.

Passive Robotics systems are also known as computer-assisted navigation systems.

The “ROBOTS” do not operate, but the surgeon exchanges information with them during the operation, resulting in the precise placement of implants (based on the doctor’s design) and the achievement of better clinical results.

At the Palaio Faliro Hospital we use the Passive Robotic Surgery (Navigation) Blue-Igs system of the Italian company Orthokey, which is the latest generation technological development for the digitally guided performance of total knee and hip arthroplasty as well as gait simulation, through the corresponding software.

The main advantages of the Blu-Igs passive robotic system for total knee arthroplasty are:

  • Greater precision in osteotomies and implant placement, resulting in a better functional outcome and less wear over time.
  • Less blood loss.
  • Lower risk of pulmonary embolism.
  • Promotes faster and less painful postoperative recovery.
  • It is an ‘’open platform’’, meaning that implants from different companies can be used according to the surgeon’s preference and philosophy.

In addition, for total hip arthroplasty, the Blu-Igs system:

  • It is the only system compatible with any access technique (Posterior, Lateral, ALMIS, AMIS).
  • Does not require preoperative CT and MRI.
  • Minimizes the possibility of clubfoot.

In conclusion, the knowledge, surgical experience and skill of the surgeon with the help of the Passive Robotic surgery system, offer the patient with knee or hip arthroplasty the optimal result in terms of functionality and duration over time.
