UrologistHe studied at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He specialized at the General Hospital “Asclepius of Voula” and during his specialization he trained in pediatric urology at the Children’s Hospital “Agia Sophia”, as well as in gynecology at the General Hospital of Athens “G. Gennimatas”.
He has graduated from a two-year postgraduate program on the topic: “Minimally Invasive Surgery, Robotic Surgery and Telesurgery” with a grade of “Excellent”, while in 2013 he was awarded a doctorate from the University of Athens by preparing a doctoral thesis, where he was graded with “Excellent”.
He received further training at the world-renowned university oncology center “Karolinska Institutet” in Sweden in robotic surgery with a scholarship from the Hellenic Urological Society. There he specialized in robotic surgeries of the lower urinary tract (prostate, bladder, pelvic lymph nodes) under the supervision of Prof. Peter Wiklund, while simultaneously engaging in clinical research on prostate cancer.
He then received further training in robotic surgeries of the upper urinary tract (kidney, ureter) and in urogynecology at the OLV Vattikuti Robotic Surgery Institute in Belgium (Prof. Alexander Mottrie) with a scholarship from the European Robotic Urological Society (ERUS).
During the same period, he was an instructor in robotic and laparoscopic surgery at the ORSI Robotic Training Center, a position he holds to this day.
He received further training in endourology, laparoscopic surgery, lithiasis and flexible ureteroscopy at the Hopital Tenon, Universite Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris with a scholarship from the European Urological Association (EAU), under the supervision of Prof. Olivier Traxer.
He has visited, as a visiting fellow, the University Urological Center of Ghent, Belgium, and the Sava Perovic Foundation in Belgrade, in order to receive further training in pediatric urology and genital and urethral plastic surgery.
He has been an instructor in robotic surgery for many years, teaching young urologists, both at the Southeastern European conferences (International Workshop in Robotic Surgery for Southeastern Europe) and at the pan-European conferences of the European Urological Association (EAU – HOT Robotic Courses).
He teaches at the Medical School of the University of Athens in the Postgraduate Course “Minimally Invasive Surgery, Robotic Surgery and Telesurgery”, while he is responsible for the practical training of doctors in robotic surgery.
He is an instructor in endourology at the European Urology Residents Education Program.
He has been honored with a best paper award at the annual European Urology Congress (EAU) for his clinical research on prostate cancer. He has also received a best paper award from the European
Robotic Surgery Society (ERUS) for the comparison of robotic and open surgery.
He is a Fellow of the European Board of Urology as well as many international medical societies in Europe and America. He is a member of the board of directors of the Hellenic
Society of Reproductive Medicine and the Hellenic Scientific Society of Robotic Surgery.
He has been involved in basic and clinical research on prostate and bladder cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia and robotic surgery, both in Greece and abroad.
He has over 50 presentations at international conferences and over 80 in Greek.
He is frequently invited abroad to speak at conferences and participate in live surgeries, regarding robotic surgery and endourology.
He has published medical articles in international (31) and Greek (2) scientific journals with high impact, while he has written chapters in an international book on robotic surgery.
He is a reviewer in (7) international foreign-language scientific journals. He actively continues his research activity in collaboration with universities abroad and in Greece.
